The word "fashionista" was invented for Thing of Beauty as a shorthand way to describe "the army of models, photographers, designers, hair and makeup people, stylists and editors who toiled daily in the beauty trenches." It was a way of differentiating the traditional "beautiful people" and their beautifying people, who joined them in celebrity in the late '70s. Fashionista caught on, and is now so commonly used that, according to the New York Times, it will be included in the next edition of the Oxford
English Dictionary.
